The number of women starting and running new businesses is growing globally and it is more clear than ever that women’s entrepreneurship is a huge source of economic and social development?

Inspired by so many dedicated and passionate women participating in the previous editions of Startup Drill as well as by the recent Global Entrepreneurship Summit #GES2017 held in India themed “Women first, prosperity for all”, we have decided to run a unique and first ever edition for women led business ideas, at the same time honoring International Women’s Day!

Event is opened to everyone! Women will be on the spotlight this time though – they will be the ones pitching while we invite all the men searching for learning, networking and inspiration to join in their teams and make some awesome entrepreneurial noise!

ABOUT THE STARTUP DRILL Lean startup educational program.

Startup Drill is an intensive training where you will learn to apply Lean startup tools in a structured way.

During Startup Drill, you will learn how to save resources spent on building products nobody wants, and focus on building something people want. And have fun on the way!

It is helpful for all of you who:

  • know that there is a problem which needs a solution, but don’t know where to start;
  • are afraid to start or already started but failed, and;
  • for those who don’t have the idea at the moment, but are curious and enthusiastic about entrepreneurship.

You might have heard about Lean Startup methodology based on the Build-Measure-Learn principle, well known from the Lean Startup initiated by Eric Ries? Do you know how to apply it? Why problem hypotheses are important and how to correctly define them? Do you know who are your early adopters, why they matter and how to find them? Have you heard about the customer development methodology? Do you know how to manage a customer development process? What is the difference between qualitative and quantitative customer experiments and how do you measure their success? How can you tell the difference between correct and incorrect customer interviews and why does that matter? Is the product you have been developing for the last 6 months an MVP? Would it be better to use the Concierge or The Wizard of Oz method?

After 24 hours of Startup Drill, you will master all of the above skills and feel ready to apply it to every future idea, project or startup!

The main value every participant has to get is to learn how to test ideas and how to fit their product into customers’ expectations so one can reach product/market fit as an ultimate goal.

Startup Drill Principles Validation loop as the base of the program.

Startup Drill methodology, based on Lean startup principles, pushes you to gather more insights on customers and their problems, needs and wishes using well prepared offline and online experiments executed in a tight timeframe within a team. You are encouraged to experiment until you reach a status of problem/solution fit; in other words, when customers validate your problem solution as a product they will actually pay for.

Teams Are created of previously unknown people with different backgrounds who work together on validation of the problem and learn along the way.

Teams are formed around the problem pitches. You have an option to pitch a problem you would like to solve for the customers and become a startup founder or you can pick another team based on your preferences.

Mentors Are here to guide your through your Lean startup experiments.

Startup Drill Mentors are experienced Lean startup practitioners; they have founded, managed and mentored startups. They have experienced all the obstacles you will confront and are here so you can overcome it faster. Mentors will guide you through the process and help to implement the methodology on your problem/solution quest.

To join Startup Drill you don’t need any previous knowledge, as we will make sure to give you all the basics upfront so you can catch up with your team from minute one.

After you register for the Startup Drill event you will receive credentials to access the edu.startupdrill special e-learning platform. After short readings, you will pass the test and you are ready to attend the event to get the most out of it.

Program Starts on Friday at 4:30PM with a networking event where you will be able to find future teammates. Below you will find detailed program.

16:00 - 17:45

Registrations, Introduction and Opening

Registrations open at 4:00pm. Make sure that you are there on time. The program starts on Friday at 4:30pm with the networking. Participants of the Startup Drill are very interesting, with diverse experiences, interests and plans, but they have one thing in common - a desire for change and progress. Expand your network of acquaintances, meet potential co-workers, customers and friends. And most importantly meet others who might want to join your team. If you currently do not have a desire for pitching, never mind, you'll join one of the teams whose problem you want passionately to solve.
17:45 - 19:00

Intro / Keynote / Team-forming

A detailed introduction to Startup Drill rules and schedule followed by a motivational keynote from a startup founder that successfully implemented Lean Startup methodology. After the keynote, everyone is ready for the Problem Pitch and formation of teams. Teams will be formed around the problem, so prepare your pitch so you will explain in 45 seconds why do you want to solve that specific problem so passionately. On average, 43% of participants pitch the problem and 26% manage to form a team. It is your decision if you want to use the full potential of Startup Drill and become a startup founder on the spot.
19:00 - 23:00

Lean Startup toolbox

A brief introduction to Lean Startup will be given, followed by practical (hands-on) work in teams. The problem needs a solution and the solution needs a customer. Who are your potential customers and how will you find them? This is your first reality check. You will learn how to build what customers want simply by following the Startup Drill Board. The Board will guide you through the process of applying Lean Startup to your idea, and help you make fast decisions and progress. Mentors are here to support you on your journey.
23:00 - 08:00

Experiment or sleep

Experiment or sleep, both are equally important. Some will go to sleep and some will go out of the building to do their first experiment. Which crowd are you going to join? But be aware that we are starting the next day exactly at 8am!
08:00 - 12:00

Experiment under mentor’s guidance

The night was long and some teams came back with new insights from customers. A quick coffee with mentors and we are ready for some more experiments, lectures and team work. What are the main assumptions you need to validate? What do you need to learn from the customers? Wrap it up in an experiment, find your potential customers and validate your hypothesis. At this point, every team will "go out of the building".
12:00 - 15:00

New experiment and Lunch

Customer development will probably lead you to pivot the problem or the customer segment. After several iterations, you will validate the problem, the customer segment and the solution. Mastering the art of building what customers want means reaching the problem/solution fit. You'll be enthusiastic about the customers and experiments, but don’t forget about your lunch!
15:00 - 16:00

Create a product that the customer wants

You have gained many insights about your customers and their problems. According to your validated learning, you will start to build your first MVP. The team is still in the experimental mode, so thinking how to create an MVP that is going to give you the maximum amount of validated learning in the least amount of time.
16:00 - 18:00

Presentation and pitching

Here we are, it is time to stop and summarize the validated learning gathered in the last 23 hours, structure it and present it to the jury. Don’t worry, our mentors will help you to structure a pitch so that you follow the Startup Drill rules for the final pitch.
18:00 - 19:00

Closing and networking

It is time to announce the winners of the Startup Drill. At the end, every team will get personalized feedback from mentors. Get ready for the networking and mingling. This was just beginning. Stay with the team and create plans for your startup, meet others and create friendships, or just have a drink with us.

EVENT FAQS Find your answers

Effective hours of the event are 5 pm – 11 pm on Friday and 8 am – 5 pm on Saturday. In the meantime, you can take a rest and those more persistent can continue applying Lean Startup.
Not at all, you will learn about it in the most effective way possible – by applying. Before Startup Drill starts, you will receive credentials for Startup Drill e-learning platform to have a short theory introduction, after which you can use your time at Startup Drill more efficiently.
You will learn how to validate your idea with the least investment of resources and apply it. At the end of Startup Drill, you will know if your idea has the potential for further development and how exactly to continue.
You should attend the whole event as modules are interconnected. Lectures, teamwork and mentoring are all important parts of your road to success.
Yes of course! A good idea is nice to have but it is not crucial for success at Lean Startup Drill. You will have an option of choosing a team to join based on short pitches at the beginning of the Startup Drill.
Both are great! If there is a team you can work together or include more people during Startup Drill in your team to help you. If you are alone, even better, there will be an opportunity to form or join a fresh team, make new friends and who knows!
No! There are no technical preconditions to attend.
No limitations, every problem has a solution and every solution can be tested. But startups solve problems, they don’t chase ideas.
You will have 45 seconds to pitch a problem in front of the audience. Within that time your pitch has to answer 3 key questions:
What is the problem?
Who has the problem?
Why are you the one who is going to solve it?
No, Startup Drill will give you full startup experience, to feel all highs and lows of a startup in just 24 hours.
Mentors are experienced lean startup practitioners; they have founded, managed and mentored startups. They have experienced all the obstacles you will have and are here so you can overcome it faster.
